This research investigates the impact of roles, responsibilities, and risk distribution on the urban bus system in terms of society, operators (publicly and privately operated systems) and customers across two Indian cities. Hubli-Dharwad is considered as a case of publicly operated system and Indore is considered as a case of publicly managed & privately operated system. The conclusions emphasise contracting practices and recommendations for both publicly and privately managed systems.
