Urban freight is vital for the economically and socially growth. Globally, 36% of freight movement occurs on roads. Road-based freight transportation contributes to 25% increase. Decarbonizing this sector is challenging, especially with a predicted fivefold increase in Indian road-based freight demand by 2050.  The historic walled city of Ahmedabad, a UNESCO heritage site, serves as its CBD and faces increased freight movement, impacting livability. To address emissions, a decision-making tool in the form of an emissions index is proposed. Developed through quantitative analysis and primary surveys, the index utilizes regression analysis to gauge the impact of fuel, engine type, load factor, and empty running on CO and NOx emissions.
