Ahmedabad is known for its historical heritage and is today a UNESCO World heritage city. The proposed site for the Biennale is located in Asarwa region of old Ahmedabad surrounded by important historical buildings. The two Vaav ‘Dada Hari ni Vaav’ and ‘Mata Bhawani ni Vaav’ dating back more than 500 years old today lie in derelict condition. Hence, the idea here is to revitalize the lost history through linking them in which the Biennale aims to act as a catalyst and bring out the transformation in the existing socio-cultural context. In the larger context, this Biennale will therefore also help revive these historical monuments in the cultural as well as tourist map of the city of Ahmedabad. 

INCOMPLETENESS is a fragment of time expressed in a material form which refutes the static solidness that is seen as ideal. Suggesting a possible perspective of looking at the fragment of Time and accepted reality. The Incompleteness is an in-between state of coming and becoming. At the moment we as a nation in a developing stage in a sense we are incomplete yet we are in a process towards completeness. And the idea of Incompleteness is very much appropriate for my design concept as it reflects the identity of a place or nation. It is the first contact point between the visitor and the Biennale. Identity is not about discovering of past or history but its all about our present. Our present is fragmented as we are in the developing stage. India as a nation is in the process of construction, which can be reflected through nature of [IN]Completeness.
