Over the period of time, housing in Ahmedabad has changed significantly depending upon the socio - cultural factors of the city and has become an important window to understand the development of the city. Hence, the city’s development is traced through the study of different housing typologies by the series of seven notes in different time period, through the late 19th century to the present. The housing typologies considered for the notes ranges from tradition pol housings, a start of mass housing in the city to the confined privacy of modern bungalows. Pol housing, chawls, slums, row housing, apartments, tenements, and bungalows are examples of the housing typologies that has been explored throughout the semester. This series of notes focuses on the theme of transformation in the interactions of people from various housing typologies through understanding in the confinement of a house as well as in the openness of their neighborhood.
