Usmanpura, an important suburb of the city of Ahmedabad, is located on the west bank of the river Sabarmati. The neighborhood of Usmanpura relishes an important position in the cultural map of Ahmedabad impregnated with diverse institutions – Darpan Academy, Gujarat Vidyapith and the tomb of Sayed Usman and it’s garden. The municipal school at Usmanpura is located on Ashram road, and houses a state government primary school education. The proposed extension is located at a site diametrically opposite to the existing building and separated by a tertiary road. The architectural language is a simple frame structure in brick and concrete that percolates from the existing school. The thesis intension is to an extension to the existing school that will accommodate secondary and higher secondary education. In addition to it, the proposal incorporates workshops and laboratories to enhance learning through empirical experiments, a privileged disparity observed only in privately run schools and newer facilities are shared by both parts of the school.
