City of Ruins

The part of fort wall between Ellis bridge and Nehru bridge creates two levels on both the sides dividing it into two parts. One side is the part having Bhadra plaza and Lal Darwaja which is a busy area full of chaos. The site around the bus terminal is surrounded mostly by the commercial buildings. The fort wall becomes a physical barrier in between and there was no direct connection of the of old city to the other side and river. The fort wall is still broken at parts and ignored. Having different site feature and potentials, both the sides could reconnect having a intervention as a link to it making fort wall as a transition and a part of it.
As walking through the old city near Bhadra fort, all you can experience is the place full of hustle bustle during the day where people in the whole area are just running and busy in work. As moving in the Pols, the places gets calmer and walking inside there are undiscovered small pathways annnd tunnels connecting to the other side of the fort wall which everyone is not aware of. One side of the fortwall is the old city market and Lal Darwaja bus stand and other side is the riverfront. There is no major connection of linking these two sides. On site, taking the fortwall as a key element by opening it up from the old city side which acts as a link to connect people to the other side. There are four different ways connecting to the project. The idea of the project is being the link in between having recreational spaces with different functions along the fort wall to move or come, sit, talk, relax, read or learn something new. As you walk inside from the main entry through the Bastion, it suddenly changes from wide into narrow creating different elements of surprise. The spaces are not completely open from all side which is mysterious and inviting for people to go inside and see.
