The act of conservation is not an exercise but a process towards extending life — of amplifying the spirit of a place by responding to its evolving needs. Working with Raj Rewal’s CIDCO Housing, my conservation approach bridges the fractures between original purpose and contemporary necessity through care, repair, and retrofit adaptation. It emphasizes a dual perspective: preserving the essence of modernist architecture while addressing the requirements of the people who live there. The intent is to reimagine life inside and outside the built fabric, transform the housing into a resilient living environment by optimizing internal layouts, and repair the architectural fabric with precision. The project undertakes retrofit and modification measures, creating more optimum layouts that meet family needs and the aspiration for rental income.
