“Transforming the historic Sen House into a vibrant cultural hub that combines traditional idol-making with modern vocational learning, homestays, and residential spaces—creating a dynamic public asset within building edge’s experiential walking trail and revitalizing the neighbourhood with accessible public spaces.”The focus on the building edge is crucial due to its dense and narrow layout, which necessitates the creation of public spaces. To activate the area, I propose an experiential trail along the waterfront, incorporating public plazas, recreational facilities, and open spaces to address the issues of darkness and density. This approach will enhance street safety, particularly for women, by improving visibility and accessibility and creating more eyes on the street. The proposal also focuses on reviving the historical connection corridor of the Sen house to Kumartulli ghat and developing it as a public plaza and arrival plaza for the experiential trail. By integrating these elements, the project aims to transform the historic building edge into a vibrant, user-friendly space that honours its cultural heritage while addressing contemporary urban challenges.
