Bagbazar Region, one of the few remaining historical precincts in Kolkata with deep cultural significance, stands at the heart of this neighbourhood. Despite its central role in daily life and major festivities, the Region suffers from inadequate amenities, overcrowded and unplanned slums, buildings and roads and an ever-rising pressure on the construction of newer structures that are now isolating its built heritage day by day from the surrounding street life and slowly burying it under layers of modernization. With these important issues in mind, the revitalization of Bagbazar Region aims to protect and restore the historic character of the Temples and the Ghats while also meeting the community’s needs today. The project focuses on improving Bagbazar Region, its infrastructural layout and congestion by restoring the original Regional layout for a better Pedestrian and vehicular movement.
