Tangible Threads of Intangible Heritage

The Kumar’s current workspace, characterized by its flexibility and adaptability, serves as a model for the new design. The prototype will employ a modular framework of timber or metal rods, allowing for customizable wall and covering materials. This approach ensures durability and adaptability, enabling easy disassembly and reassembly of specific elements. By drawing inspiration from traditional pandal construction, the design can seamlessly integrate with the neighborhood’s cultural heritage. This surgical intervention, focused on redesigning rather than demolishing workshops, will maintain the authenticity of the streetscape. Prioritizing essential amenities like water supply, ventilation, and restroom facilities will significantly improve the working conditions of the Kumars and enhance the overall ambiance of the neighborhood.
