The Veena - A Traditional Instrument Making Workshop

The Thanjavur site, renowned for its Veena craftsmanship, inspired my design. Observing the intricate process of shaping a solid wood log into the instrument influenced my approach. Just as the Veena is carved, my design sculpts spaces from the earth, creating a harmonious experience akin to the Veena’s sound. The spaces are elevated at different levels, mirroring the instrument’s rhythm and resonance. Courtyards are integrated as peaceful, connecting elements, offering moments of pause. These courtyards, strategically placed, foster interaction between interior and exterior, enhancing the spatial experience through a dialogue of heights and open areas that blend material and immaterial qualities.
