Mrid Aangan: An Architect’s Office in Ahmedabad

An Architect's Office isn't just a workplace, but a place where people interact, discuss, and learn about new ideas. Learning doesn't just happen by interacting with people but also by interacting with the spaces around you, and when the space itself is a study of how various materials and construction techniques work together, the idea behind the office becomes to ‘learn from one's surroundings’. Sanskrit for ‘The Earthen Courtyard’, Mrid Aangan is an architectural office located on a site in Shela, Ahmedabad, which is bound by lakes along two adjoining edges. The arrangement of spaces is driven by the process of evolution of an idea in architecture, i.e. the three stages, namely, Conception- where the idea is born, Contemplation- where the idea is explored, and Creation- where the idea materializes. This concept of progression has taken form through levels that gradually lift you from the ground slowly revealing the lake.
