Healing Wastescapes: Reclaiming the Greens and Blues

With the boom in population and industrial growth, the need for power generation plants has increased manifold. Thermal power generation through coal combustion produces ash that causes serious ecological problems in the form of land use, health hazards, water and air pollution, habitat loss and environmental dangers.
To remediate the ash pond and design with people and biodiversity in mind, the project responds to the surrounding ecological conditions. The most unique aspect of the site is the adjacent Sabarmati river that creates a juxtaposition between the degraded ash-scape and thriving ecological habitats. This coal ash remediation project will ultimately come together as a space designed to foster human life, experience, habitats and river edge.
