Tracing identities

An Exploration of the Meena Tribe’s Socio-political Significance Through Shifting Power Dynamics
The research explores the socio-religious evolution of the Meena tribe within the historical and political landscape of Rajasthan. It examines how the Meenas’ identity, status, and cultural practices were shaped and redefined over time through interactions with external powers, including the Rajputs, Mughals, and British colonial authorities. By tracing key periods of territorial conquest, religious integration, and social marginalisation, the study highlights the complex processes that led to the Meenas’ gradual shift from autonomous rulers to marginalised subjects and, finally, to a community reclaiming its heritage in modern India.
