Several mills and mill lands in eastern Ahmedabad are defunct and shut down. This project tries to demonstrate how it is possible to retain the mill buildings as important memory of the city and yet develop new housing and mixed use projects that engage with the neighborhood and also important anchors around the site. Since this site is located next to the Ahmedabad Airport on one side, small scale industries and residential neighborhood in the vicinity, the idea here is to develop a housing project that becomes both a neighborhood hub and a new icon in th city. The project will have a mix of hotels, hostels, that cater to travelers who need temporary housing. It will also have housing for the old age population who’s children or other family members frequent them through airports. It will also have programs that cater to the medical aid that is needed for this demography. The project also has units that can be sold in the open market to any one who may be interested as well. The existing mill buildings will be converted into restaurants, cafes, cultural spaces, supermarkets, and entertainment areas that cater to the neighborhood.
