Newman Hall ( Premal Jyoti) is one of the salient examples defining the modern architectural idiom in post independent India. This hostel building was designed by architect Hashmukh C Patel and the structural details were supervised by Dr Mahendra Mehta and Brother Martin. The hostel’s structural system is closely integrated with the design aspects. It comprises of architectural details and elements which were achieved through various innovative construction techniques and experiments that were challenging and new during its time of construction. These attributes contribute to the scientific value of the building. Even after five decades of its construction, the building still holds its structural integrity thus imparting the aesthetic and historic value of the building. Thus the above values contribute in determining the significance of the building.
