Understanding built heritage - Pol House in Ahmadabad

The traditional pols of Ahmadabad exhibit an example of regional architecture demonstrating settlement planning with an expression of communal values. These pols have self-sufficient living units/houses with provisions such as water and climatic control. This is achieved by its timber based structure which contributes to community specific function and a family lifestyle demonstrated by the design of structure and strategic house form. The original house form of this house is contributes to the architectural and historic value of the traditional settlement pattern. Over the years, there have been alterations in the original house form which made it vulnerable to diminishing its significance. The remnants of the original house form are intact and signify the norms of community living.
