The narrative of contrasting experiences inspires the project during schooling years - a structured world of academic pressures versus the liberating realm of Bharatanatyam. While the classroom imposed rigid evaluations and deadlines, Bharatanatyam offered a sanctuary of self-expression, emotional exploration, and freedom. The dance’s fluid yet geometrical forms, asymmetrical balance, and rhythmic pleats embody a profound sense of harmony and grace, becoming a metaphor for inner reflection and release. The design envisions a 4.5-meter cube as a retreat and dance space, translating the essence of Bharatanatyam into architecture. It employs elliptical forms, patterns inspired by pleats, and rhythmic apertures to evoke fluidity and balance. The material palette, including clay-painted interiors and sandstone or earthy finishes, creates a cocoon-like atmosphere. This retreat becomes a personal sanctuary - a space to reconnect with oneself, away from external validation, embodying the stillness, rhythm, and emotional sanctuary that Bharatanatyam represents.
