Part B: Counter Mapping

Module II: Working with Material Evidence

Module III: Sites of Memory

The exercises of this studio are set in the city of Lucknow, with the first module being an opportunity to thematically explore the city, while the second module focuses on the city’s architecture and detailing. The second part of module two, gives flight to the imagination and the third module proposes new ways to access the city’s history. Each module also deals with various historiographical and theoretical positions. The first module critically examines the archive in order to contest dominant narratives, the second module critically examines the formalist reading of a building and explores the idea of a post human future, and the third module deals with memory studies, more specifically the role of sites of memory relating to the rebellion of 1857.
