GROUND TO BEYOND

Soil-one of the most important non-renewable resource that plays a vital role in the Earth’s ecosystem taking millions of years to come into being. Anthropogenic activities have become a crucial factor of hastened rate of soil degradation resulting in the depletion of soil nutrients and thus the soil fertility leading to the imbalance in the natural ecosystem. The banks of River Vishwamitri have been affected adversely by human interventions thus diminishing the soil quality. Major factors that lead to the degradation in the site include demolition of the slums, flooding, erosion, pollution, presence of invasive species of vegetation. The design aims at creating a regenerative landscape where the natural cycles fall in place. As soil is the base for all the living the design begins from looking at the ground to beyond. The project approach then moulds into using soil improvement techniques to revive the soil and restoring the vegetation. Hence creating a healthy natural setting for the establishment of a deciduous forest with moist riparian vegetation in the heart of the city.
