Avifauna Habitat

The site is located near sayajibaug on the bank of river Vishwamitri. The site is spread around 17-acres of area along the vishwamitri river. Today the city has lots of green spaces which provides habitat for fauna. Some of these are naturally existing like river edge, forest in and around the city, and some of them are constructed like parks, garden. In case of vishwamitri, it passes through the entire city of Vadodara. The vegetation and riparian corridor changes as we move from mountain to the delta. We have seen that at different locations along the river, there is variation in flora and fauna. Sayajibaug which is one of the largest green space in vadodara city. It is richer in the biodiversity due to the availability of different kind of flora which supports the habitat of more number of fauna species. The current site is more like an extension of the garden. The current site has been found very barren with less vegetation. An area next to sayajibaug is rich in vegetation which supports lots of bird species. Since, there is a zoo in sayajibaug where all the animals and birds are kept in captivity. Idea is to develop an area along the river side that can act as extended habitat of sayajibaug which provides habitat for birds. So, they will be attracted to the site. This design idea aims to create a natural habitat for fauna (birds) and to maintain ecological connection between the river and the site, fulfilling their natural behavioural needs by designing animal exhibits.
