Nandanvan: Envisaging the Blank Canvas

With rapid urbanization, the amount of land getting occupied by suburban areas is vast in almost every city. These areas then develop so rapidly, that the identity of the land, its history and the sense of belonging that the people feel towards it is completely lost. The project aims to focus on this lack of identity and explore ways to mend this disconnect by acknowledging plants as one of the markers of this memory.
Hence, the site is a seemingly blank canvas in the peri-urban areas of Pune with rapid haphazard development and a strong sense of disconnect. The aim of the project is the reinstatement and resurrection of the lost identity of the villages of Pune, by translating intangible aspects of their culture, beliefs and recollection into a planting identity; to re-instill within people a sense of belonging to their land.
