LOK VAS

VISION The community is mainly comprised of the Patel vas, Prajaapathi vas, and the Thakur vas. Although these communities are close-knit within themselves, there is not much interaction between the communities. Moreover, it is mostly the men that come out of their houses in common areas like the chowk and the lakeside. This project aims to bring the community together, mainly the women who do not get many opportunities and more importantly a purpose to venture out of their houses and the immediate neighbourhood. The community kitchen aims to bring the women together as they prepare snacks for the children when they come back from school. It gives the women in a gender-biased society, a purpose to come out of their houses. Slowly as the women come together, the men interested also join the kitchen activities, erasing the gender differences slowly over time. The maidan next to it becomes an area that is not too far from the village and safe for the children to play in after school. It’s proximity to the kitchen and the activity centre which is always occupied by adults, let the parents send their children, who currently play in the streets in front of their respective houses, confidently to the maidan.
