REVEALING CURIOSITY THROUGH CONCEALED DEPTHS

Inspired by the hidden intricacies of Mandvi’s shipbuilding heritage, the design adopts a strategy of layered concealment, where the heart of the shipbuilding process is shielded from direct view, revealing itself only through intentional interaction with the building. The intervention creates a dynamic spatial experience where each layer conceals and protects the next, much like the hull of a ship concealing its structural integrity. The building itself acts as a riddle, offering minimal hints to what lies within, fostering a deep sense of curiosity and discovery. The architecture is a metaphor for the ships it houses—only through uncovering one layer at a time do the structure and meaning fully emerge. The deliberate use of thresholds, fragmented views, and hidden pathways challenges the observer to explore and discover, rewarding curiosity with glimpses of activity and craftsmanship.
