The project 'Fragments in Facades' at IIT Bombay focuses on transforming the campus by introducing social spaces into its formerly rigid and non-permeable layout. By identifying dead zones—sealed facades, unused setbacks, and narrow corridors—the design inserts lightweight steel modules such as lounges, reading pods, and collaborative platforms. Bridges double as seating zones, while sunken courtyards become amphitheaters for gathering. Perforated screens and pergolas enhance light and shade, encouraging occupation. These social insertions activate overlooked areas without erasing the old, fostering interaction, pause, and exchange. The project redefines circulation as an occupation, creating a porous, connected, and socially vibrant campus environment.
