Mise – En - Scene : A Collaborative Space

This project serves as a co-working space for content creators, which experiments with the effects of blurring the boundary between home and office and the effects of surveillance on productivity. Qualities of ‘flatness’ and ‘pretentiousness’, extracted from the objects, have been taken through an iterative process, there by producing hybrid and host parasite models. These qualities were then articulated to architecture through experiments in façade patterns and interior floor patterns.

The set design showcases the effects of surveillance on the individual and their productivity.

The duality of ornamentation in the objects is the key quality that is explored further in the host parasite.

The flatness and pretentiousness of the clock is the key quality that has been taken further in the hybrid and host parasite model.

The chunk is the first step in articulating all the qualities of the of the objects to architecture.

The final design is an extension of the chunk model. This drawing explains the design process of the façade and the floor pattern.

The plan showcases the two parts of the main building divided by a public thoroughfare. The figure and ground plan showcases the circulation paths and movement of people.

The perspectival section also showcases the pattern leak onto the wall. This leak gives the functional floor pattern an ornamental aspect.

Only the first-floor work pods have lounging provisions because it is an informal workspace for creative work, while the ground floor is a formal workspace for clerical work. Thus, it has private sitting areas.

This is a 1:50 scale chunk model of the final design. It captures the essence of the space, that is, the public thoroughfare, the formal ground floor, the informal double height first floor, the admin office, and the material leak.

This comic is a culmination of moments in the space, showcasing the dialogue between the employees, the work environment and the material leakage.
