The Modular Vault

The Modular Vault is a ventilation system designed to be plugged into pre-existing structures to enhance thermal comfort and improve the experiential quality of the space. It has inlets in the bottom half of the interstitial spaces between the structure, and outlets fit into the roofing system. The vaulted form further improves the functioning of the cross-ventilation. Further, the roof is layered to insulate the space against heat gain. Finally, as the system mainly targets implementation in slum communities, and there is a pattern of lack of storage space within the existing spaces, the system includes shelving units that fit into the interior structure. This system has been applied and tailored to an existing Anganwadi in the community of Vanjaravas in Ahmedabad as a test for its viability.
