WILD LINK - Linking Pedestrian Network and Wilderness

In the initial phase of the semester, the focus was on breaking creative barriers through various exercises including readings, films, and the rapid generation of design solutions grounded in theoretical frameworks. Utilizing methods such as haiku, keywords, poetry, land art, and theoretical literature, aim was to ignite innovative thinking and enrich our design lexicon.
Transitioning to the second phase, ATIRA was selected as the site for detailed design intervention. With a core emphasis on promoting walkability and celebrating the wilderness inherent to the area, the vision centered around developing a pedestrian network. This network would seamlessly connect key institutions and destinations such as HL, Ahmedabad University, MG Science University, CEPT (south side), Gujarat University, LD Engineering, ATIRA (main pine), and IIM. As there is existing presence of joggers and vendors along these routes, Therefore the aim was to create a vibrant network catering to pedestrians, cyclists, and vendors alike, thereby enhancing the overall walkability of the area and giving an informal space to the students of the area and activating the street edges.
The design approach involves integrating a unifying element that doubles as both land art and street furniture, serving various functions such as seating, curbs, vendor spaces, post lamps, and cycle tracks. While maintaining a formal and functional aesthetic on the streets, the design takes on a more playful and organic form within the confines of ATIRA. Additionally, the incorporation of a wilderness-inspired planting palette further enhances the natural ambiance of the streetscape, extending the essence of ATIRA into the urban fabric.
