Beginning the design process by decoding the music of ON Y VA by the artist Pascal Gaigne and forming a narrative for the program (A model making studio space for an fresh graduate Architect), the level difference became the focal point. The three main ideas that came as a result of the process was a feeling of tip toeing through space, sense of lightness and then darkness and a sense of mystery for the unknown. Decoding Pascal Gaigne’s “ON Y VA” inspired a simple narrative: a delicate journey, from lightness to darkness, toward the unknown. Thus, the final design aimed at creating a studio space which included these pointers. The main model making space which is in the basement while the exhibition space is on the ground level that connects with the staircase. Design decisions such as using staircase to express a sense of tip toeing, the basement that represent the heaviness and a mystery unknown from the exhibition space on the ground level, stone walls that provide a sense of heaviness. Kinetic played a major role in providing solution for the dark and mysterious space like the basement. Since the model making space was in the basement and the only way to provide sunlight in the space was through a skylight, the kinetic which is a redefined louvers provide a significant change in the ventilation and lighting of the place.
