It is year 2022 and our issues are still of 1950’s - low farmers income, high food prices, malnutrition. Industrial revolution in 20th century strengthen the global and local supply chains and we have been dependent on them for our agricultural supplies. Post globalization, our reliance on food supply chains have further increased that led to increased food security.
21st century brings with it challenges of Climate Change. The changing precipitation pattern and degrading top soil quality shall cause higher crop failure and puts food security to threat. Such global issues shall force humans to re-imagine farms. It is time we re-look into the realm of Agritecture (Agriculture + Architecture).
Architects such as Diana Balmore, Nikken Sekkai, WOHA have been vocal about the need of Urban Farming. The technology of 21st century allows us to produce and grow any plant specie irrespective of the geographical location which questions the need of global food supply chain in future context. A mixed use project that consolidates facilities for food production, processing, selling and distribution for local and urban farmers. The ‘FarmHouse’ will engage public of Lucknow in economic, social and leisure activities related to Agriculture and shall promote local organic
production of food. This shall transform Kaiserbagh into an active ‘economic and community hub’ that shapes ‘new model between consumer and producer’. FarmHouse shall have various methods of food production and urban farms ranging from traditional methods of agriculture to modern form of agriculture - hydroponics / aquaponics.
The demonstration of range of agriculture techniques will motivate farmers to accept and adopt modern technologies of agriculture.
The food production and storage facility shall be located at one central location while the distribution and selling shall be dispersed over area for easy access to residents.
