INTERFACE – The New Extension of Darpana Academy

Emerging as a liminal edge, the new extension choreographs a dialogue between the public realm and the heritage of Darpana. Like the fluid gestures of Manipuri Dance, where movement embraces the rhythm of earth and air, the ground dissolves into a porous threshold—a semi-open Dance floor and allied expressions, embodying the soul connection of an Indian dance with nature. Spaces are composed like raagas—grouped by kinship and resonance, layered into blocks that unfold in rhythm. An ascending cascade of stairs weaves through them, veiling the western façade like a dancer’s flowing drape, filtering light and gaze. These architectural bodies are alive, transforming with time and performance, breathing with activity. Externally bound by portal frames, the structure stands not as an enclosure, but as a frame for dance, nature, and life.
