Rebuilding the Built

To build a project in the memory of kailash, one of the points from the theory of contextualism; conflict was taken and was further evolved in the design through sketches. The main concept of the design was to explore the idea of rebuilding kailash through the most basic and ancient form of construction technique that is frame structure. The frames or the bamboo sticks contradict the very monolithic and massive structure of the kailash temple. The porosity of the scaffolding is in conflict with the denseness of the kailash. The Different units that are trapped inside the scaffolding are the different programmes which is a museum space, a gathering space, an exhibition space, an auditorium, and the Garbhagruha. The bridges that are spreaded across the scaffoldings connect this units and also provides a route that reaches to the surrounding caves and the mountain. The Bridges also provide a gathering space for the visitors to just stand and look at the surrounding context. The project is an example of one of the ways in which a memory of kailash can be experienced through the different spaces created within the museum space and the frames of the design.
