This essay examines Gevork Hartoonian's application of "montage" as a methodological framework for reinterpreting the tectonic aspects of modern architecture. Drawing on Hartoonian's engagement with Gottfried Semper's theories of fabrication and the "art of joining" rooted in pre-architectural crafts, the essay analyzes Charles Correa's design of Bharat Bhavan. Hartoonian's concept of montage is employed to understand how Correa's architectural assemblage of structural concrete, brick infill, and red sandstone cladding creates a complex interplay between construction, material expression, and cultural resonance.
