A RESIDENCE IN JAGABHAI SETH NI POL

The design studio project focuses on rejuvenating Ahmedabad, a UNESCO World Heritage City with a 612-year history. Addressing the city’s heritage decline, the project aims to craft a personalized residence within the walled city, considering the vernacular architecture. It involves adapting to contemporary needs while respecting historical structures and emphasizes a client-centric approach. The project also explores the unique social fabric within the pol houses, highlighting the interconnectedness and relationships among residents. Striking a balance between tradition and modernity, the design aims to preserve the city’s cultural richness. The project has been designed keeping into account the family brief and the design intent that the students wanted to be reflected in their design. Hence, the different design solutions have been made to cater to the needs of the client and to reflect the vernacular of the old city.
