This studio explored vernacular architecture, beginning with the mapping and analysis of Ahmedabad's Pol houses, known for their community-driven design and climate responsiveness. Building on this, we visited Udvada, documenting three Parsi heritage houses, focusing on spatial layouts, materials, and cultural nuances. The final task was to design a residence for one of the documented sites, blending traditional vernacular elements with modern functionality. The process emphasized cultural sensitivity, sustainability, and contextual integration, resulting in designs that celebrated local identity while meeting contemporary needs. This studio highlighted the importance of vernacular principles in creating architecture rooted in tradition and place.
