Rapid urbanization has led to changing land use around many lakes. If the community around it is unable to establish a sense of belonging with the lake then it often leads to issues such as negligence and abandonment. These in terms lead to problems such as dumping waste, filling in of the lake and urban flooding. Further the lakes which are developed do not sit well with the context. The typical idea of lake edge design tends to exclude a response to its surrounding context leading to gentrification of the water body. The project aims at linking the lake systems in order to mitigate the quantitative issues. It also aims at re-establishing the dependency and connection of the water body with people through introduction of various community gathering spaces, programmatic interventions and reimagination of the lake as the focal point. The design framework will allow the Nikol method of degentrification to be looked at as a case for development of talavadi across Ahmedabad.
