Kelp & Ocean

The laboratory focuses on cultivating diverse kelp species through a meticulous process, starting with collecting reproductive parts for gametophyte creation. These gametophytes are applied to threads and coiled onto cylindrical structures submerged in saline water pools for 45 days to 2 months, resulting in young kelp plants. The juvenile kelp is then transported to the open sea for further cultivation. Processing facilities, spanning 2,000 to 5,000 square feet, ensure seaweed meets quality and safety standards for various applications. Storage areas (1,000 to 2,000 sq ft) maintain optimal conditions for harvested seaweed before and after processing. These contribute to a consistent supply of high-quality seaweed products, prolonging shelf life. The facility includes restaurants promoting seaweed-based dishes, enhancing consumption. Visitors engage in seaweed farming activities, contributing to the industry’s growth. Overall, efficient processing, storage, and cultivation practices are integral to the economic success of seaweed farming ventures and the broader seaweed industry.
