The proposed architectural program for Divar Island, Goa, aims to address the persistent issue of bund breaches that lead to road erosion, saltwater intrusion, and the degradation of agricultural lands. The program envisions constructing bamboo permeable bunds crafted from locally sourced bamboo along the shores. These bunds support mangrove nurseries to restore the ecosystem and protect the river’s edge. The project also looks at treating saline and restoring soil fertility and agricultural productivity. The accompanying workshop includes bamboo workshops for bund construction, seasonal salt/rice processing units, and fertilizer processing units to enhance post-leaching soil productivity. Located on the riverbank, the structure features a deck with varying levels and a jetty for water transport. The project is designed with a sense of autonomy, where each building serves a distinct function and operates independently yet cohesively. This workshop serves as a hub for monitoring and managing activities, supporting sustainable livelihoods, and fostering long-term resilience.
