Banavat: Forming Narratives through Crafts

This project explores the dynamic relationship between traditional Indian crafts and modern design sensibilities, emphasizing cultural preservation and innovation. Field research in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh provided firsthand insights into diverse craft practices, materials, and techniques. Workshops and expert sessions facilitated the development of skills to create visual narratives, storytelling maps, and design-based installations. By integrating local craftsmanship with contemporary approaches, the project highlights the value of intangible cultural heritage. It focuses on crafting new expressions of tradition that resonate in the digital era while fostering sustainability and strengthening the livelihoods of artisan communities.
