Considering Ahmedabad as a context, where the past (heritage) and the present co-exist very evidently, I thought of conceptualizing the airport such that, the passenger experiences the evolving nature of the city in the transit as a visual narrative through spatial volumetric progression. This concept is translated in the space with the idea of using the same materials throughout but the expression and nature of it changes with respect to the time period being showcased in the spaces and it shows the evolution from traditional methods of use with the raw material to the current modern technology usage. Contemporary design language is followed throughout the airport. Instead of direct reference to the heritage, indirect inferences and extractions are made and elements are designed by deriving the language from elements of the old city which is translated with contemporary materials. There are volumetric pauses after each function. Landscape and water body is infused in spaces in different ways. They are used to calm down the passenger, lower down the anxiety levels and escalate the passenger experience.
