Saffar : A Trade Journey

The Tibetan trade route is one of the main factors that played a role in creating Kalimpong’s identity. Kalimpong’s proximity to tibet and access through the Jelepla pass tracked attention from all over the world looking for the Sangri La. Resulting in amalgamation of a lot of cultures in Kalimpong. This trade route beginning from Lhasa to Kalimpong was a harrowing journey, climb steep mountains in the rain and brave through blizzards in the arid zones.
Taking this journey itself as the starting point to my design, the project will follow the narrative of these traders and the places they encountered on the journey and reinterpret them into the interior spaces, creating an experience of journey from Kalimpong to Lhasa for the visitors.
