Form Finding : From Tension to Compressive Shell Structu

This project investigates the transformation of tensile structures into compression-based systems to design a pavilion. Using Lycra and PLA for form-finding, the study explores how anticlastic surfaces, optimized for tension, can be reimagined as concrete shell structures. The process involves analyzing the geometric and material properties of forms generated through physical experimentation and adapting them to function effectively under compression. By translating the expressive and efficient qualities of tensile forms into durable, load-bearing concrete designs, the project aims to create an innovative pavilion that demonstrates structural elegance, material performance, and architectural functionality while bridging flexible and rigid structural paradigms.
