TensileMorph

This research explores the interaction of tension and bending forces in form-finding experiments using stretchable Lycra fabric and cane, where the fabric is stretched to near-maximum elasticity, and a stitched cane pattern introduces bending forces that self-organize into complex three-dimensional forms upon release. A novel fabric formwork system is presented as a material saving, labour reducing, lightweight and cost-effective solution for the casting of bespoke doubly curved concrete geometries.
