Tutor Profile: Monsoon Semester, 2019, Faculty of Design, CEPT University Course: FD4003: Re­Design­Process Course Tutor/s: Anand Belhe, Kaulav Bhagat, Dhruvit Patel Link to CEPT Portfolio : (studio work from past semesters) Course Introduction :  To visualize and develop furniture for specific context and arrive at the design process after making of the prototype. To redesign the existing furniture with given parameters of materials, structure and technology. To observe, analyze and investigate different aspects related to materials, structure and technology of existing products. Course Expense : (INR ­extra expenditure a student would incur during the semester) INR 10,000/­ (Ten only Rupees) Course Prerequisite: Mandatory for MFD 1st semester students. Problem Statement:  This studio aims at solving design problem of furniture considering the material and structure as primary focus. Students will follow specific steps to arrive at final design solution. 1. Existing furniture is given to do measure drawing, study and analyze with given parameters. 2. The principle of the existing furniture structure will remain constant and change the material, either wood or metal to explore and redesign the furniture based on given constrains. 3. The materials of the existing furniture will remain constant and change the structure of it with appropriate and feasible structural system. 4. Define and develop feasible design concept by combining the experience gained during 2nd and 3rd stage, which is of material and structure, to demonstrate original idea. ? Visualization Drawing ? Analytical Drawing ? Construction Drawing ? Essay ? Physical Scale Model ? Digital Model ? Film ? Furniture Prototype After completing this studio unit, the student will be able to: 1. Solve specified problems by applying systematic approach to design process. 2. Explore and combine materials and structure creatively for a specified objective. 3. Develop an approach towards the design and elements of forms. 4. Relate and integrate between structure and form. 5. Execute the furniture using workshop techniques, get sensitize towards precision of making and acquire skill during the process.
