Furniture Collective

Design Brief:  Ahmedabad, the seventh largest metropolis in India and the largest city of Gujarat state, to develop a background understanding of the city of Gujarat state, to develop a background understanding of the city for the project. It is also a historical city which has evolved with culture, heritage and this all exploring through art and craft with lots of material like Wood, metal, stone, terracotta. Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya at Sabarmati Ashram this memorial museum is located in the ashram where the Mahatma lived from 1917 to 1930. Housing his books, letters and photographs, this modest and humanly scaled memorial uses brick piers, stone floors and tiled roofs to find a contemporary expression for the spirit of swadeshi. In order to reflect the simplicity of Gandhi’s life and the incremental nature of a living institution the architect used modular units 6 meters x 6 meters of reinforced cement concrete connecting spaces, both open and covered, allowing for eventual expansion. The modular simplicity of the structure is continued in the use of basic materials: stone floors, brick walls, wooden doors and loured windows devoid of glass, and riled roofs. The units are grouped in a consciously asymmetric manner to be analogous to the Indian village with its pathways and seemingly randomly placed buildings and its meeting points; in this instance the central water court. The program is aim to create a place for Furniture Collective which would help to revive the importance the program. It also become a place where people can come and work on hands-on skills with material which promote the craft. This give a scope to explore new innovation with contemporary craft which reinterpreted through molecularity in the present world. This can be achieved by creating a space that show relationship between user and various modules of study.
Program Brief:The program is aim to create a place for “FURNITURE COLLECTIVE”,which would help to revive the importance the program. FORM.....FUNCTION......FURNITURE...........Furniture, quintessentially, is the most important component in a space, that renders it functional and lends it a certain character, throughout history, furniture styles have developed with certain characteristics of form, shape and ornamentation. Be it a residence, an institution,a retail space or an office, a myriad number of furniture design practices have made a strong impression with their projects and practicums. there for the best collection of all this furniture are collected under one space with modules design. About Concept - Modular design or Molecularity is a design approach that subdivides a system into smaller parts called modules that can be independently created and then used in different system. Modular design combines the advantages of Standardization with those of Customization. About Golden Ratio- The Golden ratio is a special number found by dividing a line into two parts so that the longer part divided by the smaller part is also equal to the whole length divided by the longer part. The Fibonacci sequence is a set of numbers that starts with a one or a zero, followed by a one, and proceeds based on the rule that each number (called a Fibonacci number) is equal to the sum of the preceding two numbers. Modular design is based on the Fibonacci series.
