THE RIVER BANK

Rivers in India have their own stories. It feels like every river with its flow want to say something and the noise of water just narrates its story. River, its source and its destination together itself form the basis of narratives which are very contextual in their own way. Rivers are locals of the region they flow through. The edges and development along it add to the local character in a very contemporary way. This forms the basic criteria of the program. Sabarmati river has also seen its ups and downs. It constantly does the conversation between its existence and development. The local river got transformed in a global nutshell resulting in the “glocal” riverfront area revitalizing the stretch into a public space. The problems associated with the riverfront needs a platform to be discussed and conveyed to masses.Social awakening about the rivers have already been started by Sadguru through his “ Rally for rivers” initiative. The space therefore should be such that it deals with the problems associated with the river not by just having water in interiors but by feeling/experiencing the changing edge of it. Argument , its linkage with respect to interior design production processes and the manifestation of the space making elements together will make the space functional. Argument and site are set in their own position. Designing a space which will attract masses and also satisfy the argument at the same time is base of the design process and program.Space making elements, their importance needs to be studies.Spatial character which will reflect the visual culture with respect to materials, production processes, details. The visitor should have the notion of space while leaving he/she should question the production and the nature of the space thus formed.
