Re-Design Process

This chair draws inspiration from the designs of the famous furniture designers Marcel Breuer and George Nakashima’s grass seated chair due to its distinct cantilever which is supported on four legs. A sturdy back rest is attached to the rear legs resulting in the formation of a 3-way bridle triangular joinery giving perfect lumbar support without interfering with the shoulder blades of the occupant. A strong influence of Japanese triangular joinery can be seen in this section of the chair’s structure. The arm rest is firmly connected to the front legs at the precise height which would provide the necessary support needed to the occupant’s forearms without him/her needing to raise the shoulders. This ensures zero compromise in the occupant’s comfort by providing perfect side support to the seat. The armrest, apart from being the support for the front legs, is also connected to the backrest. This gives the chair body the best possible structural support. The backrest frame has a curved wooden piece connected to it which mimics the natural surface of the occupant’s back, providing maximum comfort. The seat surface has polyester weaving, which provides a soft contact to the occupant’s buttocks for a relaxed sitting experience. Along with the aforementioned structural design which makes the chair ergonomic, brass and walnut polish is used to add elegance, ensuring that the chair also looks aesthetically pleasing. In conclusion, the chair aims to combine an outstanding design with practical style and user accessibility.
