The project explores the opportunity of retrofitting the Baroda Record Room, one of the parts in large branch of Gujarat State Archives in Baroda (Vadodara), into a corporate office workspace for Google. The design is inspired by philosophies of Richard Serra that explores creating a sculptural language that defines the space by mass, creates passages and envelopes, thus helping in differentiating the space. The design elements sit in the space and are a symbolic representation of the meaning to the space. It emphasizes materiality and engagement between the viewer, site, and work. The space is segregated into 2 zones i.e. grid and non-grid, thus breaking the monotony of the existing site. The scale of the elements is inspired by the artwork of Serra. The provision of vertical movement through these elements helps the viewer experience it from both inside and outside. Incorporating the ideologies of Serra using techniques that integrate curvilinear and non- curvilinear elements articulates the essence of his works.
