Seating Element Inspired by the Bougainvillea Flower

An important part of being a designer is choosing solutions for problems, be it choosing a finish for a material or deciding which hardware to use. Answers to these dilemmas are not always clear, and often times multiple solutions can be the answer to a problem. Taking inspiration from something well defined and pre-existing can help answer these dilemmas. Such an approach was taken for this project. The Bougainvillea plant was taken as an inspiration for the design of a seating element.

Before starting the design process a set of preliminary exercises were conducted.

These exercises later helped us during our project.

The Bougainvillea plant was taken as the inspiration for the final project.

The information learnt from the above analysis was later used to help develop the form of the final product.

The motif was used as a base to come up with ideas for the project.

'Bougainvillea: The Creative Verandah' is a well maintained exhibition space, which was chosen as the site for the project.

Various forms and materials were considered before deciding on the final design.
