MAKDI : Mental And Kinesthetic Development Intervention

As part of the studio titled " New Product Development in Sustainable Practices", several initial design sprints were conducted which aimed at understanding the Life Cycle Assessment of products and materials,  which play an important part in sustainable approach to design. The final project aims towards creating an innovative solution for Play in a government run Anganwadi. The project was approached through the lens of sustainability, keeping in mind the materials, value addition, manufacturing processes, lifetime use, transportation, longevity and end of life. Personal definitions of sustainability were developed over the course of this semester.

Design Sprint 1 : Redesign of an existing product in an alternate material. Form and function iteration based on material properties.

Design sprint 2 : Designing a product out of sheet metal within the domain of "play".

Design sprint 3 : Quick ideation and development of a play product using sheet metal, wood and a third material.

Final Studio Project : Unpacking the domain of Play, and understanding the Anganwadi system ( sub-domain), developing a design brief.

Final Studio Project : Understanding the desirable qualities of a play product and unpacking the 3 areas of child development ( cognitive, sensorial and motor ). Exploring concepts for play products through rough sketches.

Final Studio Project : Exploration of concepts through rough sketches and a basic study of child anthropometry.

Final concept development and aspects of sustainability considered.
